7,000km to freedom
When life collapsed all around me I was left with a choice. It was not easy and it took me months to find the strength to say “enough is enough!” What I chose is not what most would have chosen, and I know that. To some it seems insane. But to anyone who really knows me, it was the best decision I could have made for myself. I decided to get in my car and drive from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan Canada to Cancun, Quintana Roo Mexico. Perhaps seemingly on a whim - but there was something much deeper to it. I grew up driving from Saskatoon to Tijuana with my dad as a child. Some of my fondest memories are from those times. My dad died 20 years ago and for the past two decades I said I would take him to Mexico. There is something deeply personal about this trip on many levels. Almost too many to explore here but for brevity sakes I decided that we were going to do Mexico my way this time and we headed to Cancun.
I left Saskatoon on Dec 1, 2025. I arrived in Cancun on Dec 17, 2025 and have been here since. I have been settling in and working on this project. I have not really taken much time to reflect on the trip itself but it was an adventure worth sharing!
And with that, the blog is born lol.
